The Head Start Program

Head Start is a no-cost comprehensive school readiness program providing education, health, nutrition, and family services to qualifying children who turn 3 or 4 by September 1st. Summer Preschool partners with New St. Paul Head Start Agency, Inc. to provide Head Start services and we share and support their mission to, “Work together to empower children and families by providing comprehensive services (Health, Nutrition, Social Service, Mental Health, Disabilities, Education, Transition and Parent Involvement) that help to ensure a better future”.

The class meets Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and wrap around service is available for those needing care after 3:30 p.m. Plus, our teachers are trained and credentialed. Each day includes healthy meals, snacks, and lots of fun. We utilize HighScope Curriculum, whose foundation is built on active learning across developmental domains.

Categories include:

  • Approaches to learning
  • Social & emotional development
  • Creative arts
  • Language, literacy, & communication
  • Mathematics
  • Science & technology
  • Social studies
  • Physical development & health

The Head Start program is funded by the Administration for Children and Families and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Teachers and students are active partners in shaping the educational experience. This partnership allows children the opportunity to find out how the world works through their direct experience with people, objects, materials, events, and ideas. The curriculum emphasizes adult-child interaction, a carefully designed learning environment, and a plan-do-review process. This process strengthens initiative, self-reliance, supports critical thinking and language development in children. Our teachers observe and record activities while supporting each child’s individual learning process.
